Violinist Elisabeth Small is Assistant Professor of Music at Belmont University where she serves as Coordinator of Strings, and Artistic Director of the Belmont Camerata chamber music series and the multi-stylistic String Crossings Camp.
Her varied career includes engagements as soloist with orchestra including the National, Atlanta and Nashville Symphony Orchestras, chamber music and recital broadcasts on regional television and on public radio stations in the U.S. and Canada, as well as service as Associate Concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony. In 2015 Small joined Belmont colleagues for a solo/piano-trio tour of eight cities in China which included performances and master classes in Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzen. She has led master classes and clinics as far afield as the Dresden Hochschule in Germany, as part of a Belmont faculty exchange, and many of her presentations at previous national and state (including ASTA) conferences have focused on muscular-skeletal injury prevention.
As an active member of the Nashville recording industry, Elisabeth has sweetened tracks for many Pop luminaries. Her former students hold positions in higher and lower education appointments, as well as professional symphonic positions. Small nurtures stylistic versatility, from Jazz/Rock to Bluegrass/Celtic, and alumni from her studio continue to be heard on stages throughout the world with renowned acts such as Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Apache Relay and Barrage. Awards and honors of former students include: Jenee Fleenor, fiddle, Blake Shelton band, 2015 CMA Touring Musician of the Year; Tammy Rogers King, fiddle & vocals, The SteelDrivers, 2016 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album; Kate Lee, fiddle & vocals, O'Connor Band, 2017 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. Elisabeth received her degrees at The Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay. She can be heard on the Premiere Records label.
